Blogcast Wednesdays! Explanation on Ipsilateral Loading Strategies

I often get asked in courses or online, how do you explain to the patient how ipsilateral loading (cervical retraction with SB overpressure, or sidegliding in standing).

There are several explanations from the traditional MDT mechanical to the more modern neurophysiologic and suffice to say, I start with one and if they're not buying it, I switch to the other. What normally accompanies the first question is, "Why does it work so well?"

Here are my current thoughts with some old school thrown in for good measure.

  1. Thinking outside the box........ Now you have been looking at the PRI system do you think there may be an explanation to SGIS using their Left AIC classification?

  2. No, because someone may have a loss of SGIS left or right, or just respond to straight extension based on a directional preference, not human anatomy. That's why I use MDT first, and PRI 3rd currently.
