Single Leg Bridge Variations

It's that time of the year again! Resolutions abound and everyone wants to improve their fitness. I was asked to contribute to a group post on Core Exercise Solutions by my colleague Dr. Sarah Duvall. The post was on our favorite core exercises. Check out the post, a lot of great vids and coaching tips on there by some of the top names in the fitness and rehab field!

I chose single leg bridge because it not only is great for
  • firing the LQ posterior chain
  • improves hip mobility in extension - much more effective than traditional static quad stretching
  • decreasing anterior thigh/hip flexor perceived tightness
  • works anti-rotatory stability

I may integrate into an Eval, Reset, and Stabilize paradigm like this

Eval - extension in standing, limited, improves with hip flexed
Reset - pain free psoas release, followed by repeated end range loading into hip flexion for homework
Stabilize - work the new range of hip extension with single leg bridge prior to working out/running

I'll shoot a quick vid soon of this sequence.
