Interview: Jesse Awenus' Thoughts on the SFMA Day 1 and 2

Jesse Awenus is your friendly neighborhood Physio, colleague, and also a friend of mine. On facebook he posted his honest thoughts about taking the SFMA Level 1 a while back and it stirred quite a discussion!

Many took his post to be negative, but it was honest criticism from a critical thinker. What he thought on Day 1 of the course and Day 2, differed so much, I decided to interview him about it. Here it is - 22 minutes in length. As usual, I tried to keep it short, and it was only half the time of the Perry Nickelston and Charlie Weingroff ones... not that Jesse isn't worth the time! Without further ado...

  1. Thanks Dr. E. Taking SFMA in early SFMA. Glad to see some honest info.

  2. Just got back from Advanced SFMA in Chicago. FYI, the half kneeling DF test is definitely still part of the ODS breakout. They estimate an hour for breaking out all patterns as a newbie but if you practice that time should obviously decrease.

  3. Yes, I got an email from Dr. Mike Voight regarding this and the interview in general, the half kneel ankle df test definitely still in there, but the leg swings are no longer part of single leg stance. Top Tier supposed to be 1-2 minutes, breakouts 15-20 minutes on average with experience.

  5. I apologize, I thought we were talking about the half kneeing DF as a top tier test, not a breakout for the squat

  6. So you did practice it as part of the ODS and MSE breakouts?
