edit: A reader asked where I got the 1000x great intradiscal pressure in sitting vs standing. Here was my response

It's a study by Nachemson that is often referenced in MDT courses, it can never be replicated as it was on live subjects with actual pressure measurements in vivo. I looked it up, and even when I said it, it seemed like it was high, but for some reason that # stuck in my head. It certainly does not seem like that when I looked at the abstract, possibly it was 100 times higher, this I believe is the study.
