Quick Links!

Today's Quick Links come from Julie Wiebe, Dr. Irene Davis, and Dr. Harrison Vaughn.
Julie Wiebe explains that incontinence is not just lack of control but light leaks. Why is this relevant to anyone not doing women's health? It is a relevant question to ask in anyone with lower back, hip, or pelvic pain. My wife used to do women's health PT and she told me not to ask about "bowel and bladder issues or loss of control, but even increase in frequency or urgency." Those point to fixable problems.

I saw a very interesting presentation on barefoot running last week by Dr. Irene Davis, a PT researcher who stopped running for more than 15 years, and is now able to run again with midfoot strikes, (and also barefoot). Many of your patients may be asking about barefoot running, minimalist shoes, or running form. She gives great evidence on why midfoot striking is the way to prevent the most amount of injuries, and why heel and toe strikers WILL get injured. Here is part 1, 2, 3, and 4. It's a must watch for any runner, or anyone treating runners who have ?'s and need answers. If you have a free hour, I highly recommend it!

Dr. Harrison Vaughn is writing up a series of posts on an evaluation of non-specific LBP. He presents the question, do we need more than positive SI cluster tests for a diagnosis? If you frequent this blog, what would my answer be?
